Ultimate is a dynamic field sport played with a Frisbee (or flying disc) rather than a ball.
Teams of seven vie on a rectangular field with end zones. Players can't run with the disc, so the team with possession tries to advance it into the opponent's end zone via passing. When they succeed, they score a point. The opposing team defends their end zone by attempting to block or intercept the disc. If they succeed, they become the offense, and go the other way.
Games are generally played to 15.
The official flying disc of the game is larger and more stable than your typical dime-store Frisbee. And much easier to control. Skilled players can throw it with breathtaking accuracy. It is not uncommon to see a good player rifle it 40 yards, have it curve past the outstretched fingers of a defender, hover in the air, and nestle into the hands of a speedy receiver.
